Dawn Mother-Baby Care Initiative
Delivering maternal and childcare to mothers and their babies in their communities and homes, one mother and one child at a time – It’s a new DAWN!

What’s the problem?
Uganda still faces alarmingly high maternal and infant mortality rates, especially in rural and underserved areas. The Uganda Demographic and Health Survey (2022) reports a maternal mortality ratio of 336 deaths per 100,000 live births and a neonatal mortality rate of 22 per 1,000—largely from preventable causes such as birth complications due to poor uptake of antenatal care, poor postpartum care, lack of early breastfeeding, and a severe shortage of providers, with only one midwife per 5,000 people. Additionally, 1 in 4 Ugandan postpartum women suffers from depression or anxiety, yet few receive appropriate support.
