When we launched DAWN a few months ago, our goal was simple: to take maternal and neonatal care to mothers and their babies in their villages and communities. Well, we seem to be overwhelmed!
In less than 10 health outreach programs, we have met and supported more than 1,361 mothers. However, our support has been very limited. We have been overwhelmed with huge numbers of mothers and children who have been left out by the formal healthcare system, and we now have a challenge to increase our efforts and extend more support to these mothers.
At DAWN, our mission to serve mothers and their babies has taken us to communities often overlooked or underserved. Through our Mother-Baby Health Camps, we’ve provided essential care, love, and resources — sometimes in overwhelming numbers.
For example, at one of our largest camps in Kakunu Village, Busembatya (Iganga) in May 2025, we served over 1,000 mothers and their children in just one day. The turnout was both overwhelming and inspiring, reinforcing the deep need for maternal and newborn support in Uganda.
We’ve since organized similar camps across the country — sometimes independently, and at other times in collaboration with like-minded organizations. Below is a summary of the communities we’ve reached so far:
